project description:

Restoration of the Gerber building and the station's north entrance at the corner of Wilson and Broadway, construction of a new ADA accessible south entrance and replacement of two rail platforms with new precast concrete platforms and glazed steel canopy.

design solutions:

Curvilinear platform canopies symbolically tie north and south station entrances. Their design along with the curvilinear entrance canopy/ceiling, give both shelter and identity to the community. While platform canopies address the larger scale of the community, the curvilinear ceiling, at street level, addresses the pedestrian users, inviting them into the station. Reestablishment of the transit entrance at the Gerber Building’s prominent southeast corner together with the restoration of iconic entrance elements reinforces wayfinding.
